Centrifuge application of fibre Bragg gratings: pile axial loads and wall bending moments

چکیده
One challenge for geotechnical centrifuge testing of soil–structure interaction problems is the reliable measurement induced structural strains/forces. This paper presents a novel application fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors strain within tests. FBG have several advantages testing, in particular their small size and minimal self-weight. gives an overview recently developed installation calibration procedures buried model structures. The effect thermal expansion/contraction materials (including both structures) considered assessed. precision reliability are demonstrated using verification two problems, namely, pile jacking ‘retaining wall’ adjacent to tunnel (acting as protective wall prevent structure from tunnelling-induced ground movement). results demonstrate that can provide measurements axial strains/forces bending moments. provides evidence support routine adoption strain/force structures modelling.

Fibre Bragg Gratings for Temporal Spectral Astronomy
Temporal spectral astronomy or time resolved astronomy is the study of astrophysical phenomena that show spectral variability on very short timescales. These timescales are often too short to be resolved by current astronomical equipment. The lack of detailed observations in this area keeps important theoretical descriptions of astronomical events unclear or incomplete. To resolve this, instrum...
متن کاملOptical Fibre Bragg Gratings for Acoustic Sensors
In this paper, we give a short review of Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors for the detection of acoustic signals, in particular ultrasound. The primary advantage of FBGs as sensing elements is their spectral encoding of the measurand, which can be either strain or temperature. However, spectral decoding methods cannot be utilized to detect high frequency signals due to their inherent low speed....
متن کاملEtched Polymer Fibre Bragg Gratings and Their Biomedical Sensing Applications
Bragg gratings in etched polymer fibres and their unique properties and characteristics are discussed in this paper. Due to the change in material and mechanical properties of the polymer fibre through etching, Bragg gratings inscribed in such fibres show high reflectivity and enhanced intrinsic sensitivity towards strain, temperature, and pressure. The short-term and long-term stability of the...
